Growing Up

Yesterday, we got Zoie a big girl booster seat. She has outgrown her toddler one and Charlotte was squished in her infant car seat.

Today, both girls were able to ride in their new car seats on the way to Stake Conference. They both loved it and Charlotte had a lot of fun facing forward. They are growing up too quick for me. I wish they could stay small a little longer, but it is fun to see them enjoy new things and get really excited doing new things.

We love our girls!

Apple and Peach Picking

To start our Fall off we went Apple and Peach Picking on Labor Day. It was so much fun and the girls had a blast.

We picked 101 apples and 76 peaches. With all that fruit, I canned 15 quarts of applesauce, 3 quarts of peach applesauce, and 24 quarts of peaches. We are in heaven and are so excited to eat all this deliciousness!

Charlotte would smile at the camera, but once we took it she would quickly turn a way, that's why you can't see her face in the pictures. She was enjoying eating the peaches and driving the car with dad. Zoie kept saying this a good one and picked it and would put it in the bag!

I can't wait until next fall to do this again! Every now and then Zoie will say "it was fun picking apples and peaches and strawberries mom?" "We do it again next time." I'm glad she loves doing this and I hope we can continue to make this a tradition!

Awesome Yard Sale Find

Do you all remember my amazing mirror that I found in someones trash and I fixed it up? The one that Ryan was screwing the back on and cracked the mirror and I covered it up with chalkboard vinyl? Well if not, check it out.

I loved it, mostly because it was big, free and one of a kind with the vinyl on it. Well, when we moved into our house in June, it broke. The crack went all the up the middle of the mirror and there was no way I could hide it and fix it. So it just sits behind our piano until I can think of something to do with it. Any ideas?

Anyway, I really liked it and was bummed that I wouldn't have a big mirror to hang up in the house. I love mirrors. As I was driving home from the store this afternoon, I drove by this yard sale and saw a mirror for sale. I told myself I'd just stop by and look at it. It was probably going to be more than what I would want to pay for it.

I got out and looked at it and told the guy I was interested and he said he would give it to me for $5.00. I couldn't say no, so I took it. They were getting ready to move and just wanted to sell things quick. So for $5.00 I got myself my new mirror. Take a look, I love awesome yard sale finds!

Don't you just love it. I love how long it is and I think I'm going to put it in our hallway. I haven't figured out how I'm going to paint it/stain it, or the color and such.
If you have suggestions or ideas please share with me.

Here is the detailed top of the mirror. Beautiful!

Fall Projects

I've been out of crafting for a while now and the other day I decided to get back on that creativity wagon. We are staying home for holidays this year (our first year) and I wanted to decorate our house and make it feel more like "home for the holidays."

I looked around on pinterest and saw some amazing ideas and decided to make a few and I love them. The best part is that I didn't have to pay a single dime for these. I had everything on hand. Can't beat that!

What do you think?

This is our FALL Garland. I don't know where to put it yet, but it is simple and cute. I made it out of book pages and printed the letters off from the computer.

This is my favorite! It is our "Fall" wreath, that I will hang on our door outside. I just need to get a hook for it. But I love the look, very simple and elegant and can be used for just about any occasion.
I made this out of book pages, coffee filters and a pine cone.

Now to work on some Halloween crafts! It's going to be so much fun!

Work-out Buddy!

I had a great work-out buddy 2 years ago and then her family moved. I was excited, but bummed, because we worked out every day and it was great. We pushed each other and always felt the same. Since she left, I haven't been good at working out everyday.

So, I've started today to set a goal and workout more, for real this time (maybe I can get Ryan to join in with me and Zoie). Zoie loves to workout with me and gets excited to dress up in my workout clothes. It's so much fun.

Today we did half of Body Attack and then did a circuit training and some planks. It was a lot fun. Now, mind you Zoie doesn't do everything. She just does Body Attack, push ups, sit ups, and squats with me.

It is great to have a work-out buddy, again. What work-out did you today?

Importance of Consistency

I honestly thought that the "terrible twos" was just a saying other moms said to new moms or it was just an excuse for lack of a parents discipline and control over one's kids. While there may be some truth to the latter, I understand that even with discipline and control over one's kid at the age of two, they are there own person and are going to make that known.

Zoie tested my limits and patience on a regular basis and it bothered me so much. Now, I understand, she was discovering herself and trying to figure out her boundaries and limits in our house. Had I truly known that then, things may have been different. I probably wouldn't of had so many meltdowns or frustrations with myself, because I "wasn't being" a good parent, etc.

Being LDS and following the principles of the gospel can be a little hard for young ones to understand. I remember in one General Conference, Elder David A. Bednar discussed the importance of being consistent in the things of the gospel. I am here to testify and echo what he said. There is some strength and joy that comes from being consistent with scripture study, FHE, family and personal prayer.

Last September, before Zoie turned two, we started to read the Book of Mormon. At first, it took Zoie a while to sit, listen, be quiet, and stop playing with toys. But we continued to make it a part of bedtime routine and as months passed and she got used to it, she would remind us it was time to read scriptures and pray.

When we read, every time we come to a verse that says "And it came to pass" we say "Zoie what do you say" and she will say "and came to pass." Once we made her an active part of scripture study things slowly started to change. Not just in the feel of the house, but with her , me and Ryan's behavior and attitude. We still had our days, but they were far and in between.

Things have been great and she knows her limits and on occasion she still tests them, but she isn't as persistent as she was before.

The last few weeks I have had amazing feelings. Amazing feelings such as how Zoie is behaving, treating others, developing her personality, using her imagination daily, school work, etc. I don't know how to describe them besides, I'm doing what she needs and she is happy, which makes me very happy.

I am just now reaping the rewards of what we sowed through out the past year. It brings me so much joy and happiness, when she tries to read scriptures and pray with Charlotte during the day. When she talks about Jesus, when she sings her primary songs, when she says, "I know Jesus loves me", etc.

Seeing all of this the past couple of weeks, I've noticed she has grown from a toddler to a little girl. It breaks my heart and makes me super happy. I am very proud of the little girl she is becoming and that she knows Jesus and Heavenly Father are there for her to listen to her prayers of gratefulness and challenges and loves her very much.

I know I am doing a great job. I know that being consistent during the challenging times is difficult, but it will soon all be worth it. Parenting isn't always easy, but it will be worth it, especially when you see the pure joy and happiness in your child's eyes. The Lord is real and ready to listen and help you out. He has helped me many times with Zoie and myself and what it means to be a parent. I love the gospel and the spirit it brings into my home.

May you find strength from this and continue to do your best as a parent and apply the principles of consistency in your home and watch the change that takes place.
